So, Where Are We Going?
Specifically, where is ARUP going? We've seen the high turnover and shuffling in the "Leadership" in the last four years and it would appear that we're in for much more. It feels a lot like the Twilight Zone, Cassiopia and all. Our direction or lack thereof is dictated by our sleepy Board of Directors who occasionally wake long enough to anoint a new King in hopes that the solution lies therein.
It all began with the CEOs. But now that Andy is officially King by the Board of Directors and his reign is secure, that is over.
Then came the VP, CFO, CIO, crew and that too has stabelized to the small neighborhood that it is. It is worth noting that the Board has selected people for these slots that while educated in a variety of disciplines cumulatively couldn't tell you the difference between a bit and a byte. It naturally follows that these are the folks giving vision, energy and direction for this IT centric company.
More recently we're watching the play out among the "Directors" being tossed around and others being appointed as "family and friends" to positions for which they are uniquely unqualified. We're in a sort of "survival" mode now that upper management wandering the halls like 3 Blind Mice each looking for "meaning" and relevance as a method of survival. This crew is simultaneously weeding out middle management with reckless abandon to solidify control, cloister knowledge and protect hard earned turf.
These are in the days where we (the ordinary) cannot feel safe in our jobs. We've seen the ouster of directors, managers and others who questioned the King's commands. No one is safe. As with any serious threat we must do what we can to eliminate preserve our work.
One such threat is competence.
